Learning a new language can be a slog.
However much enthusiasm we may have at the beginning, sooner or later other priorities come along.
Our good intentions fall by the wayside.
And eventually, we quit.
There’s some great free stuff on our site dontspeakspanish.com (now with improved navigation icons, take a look!)
But if you get through that, where next?
How to maintain the momentum??
Well, here’s some good news.
One fun way to learn Spanish, or any foreign language, is to put aside the grammar books as soon as possible and actually get using what you’re learning!
If you can’t spend time in a Spanish-speaking country, try ‘easy readers’!
These are simplified stories (with audio) designed to get you reading and listening to the new language.
Or if you’re the more analytical type, you might prefer ‘parallel texts’.
They may be the same story as in the ‘easy readers’ version, but formatted in a different way.
Instead of the audio, you get a chapter-by-chapter translation into English.
In a parallel text, each line is numbered, so you can read the first few lines of the story in Spanish, then check your understanding with the same-numbered lines in English.
Either way, you’ve got the fun of following the story, while all the while learning new words and consolidating the grammar you’ve been sweating over.
And when you finish one, there’s this huge satisfaction!
It’ll really boost your confidence and make you want more, more, more!
Right now, over at easyreaders.org’s Learn Spanish department, there’s a 50% OFF deal on their whole range of easy readers and parallel texts.
But keep your cash in your pocket for the moment – for each title there’s a free sample chapter!
Just click on the title that interests you and look for the ‘free sample chapter’ download link.
Oh, and better still?
If you look carefully you’ll see that there’s one title, ‘El restaurante‘, which is absolutely free!
Get the whole ebook to read and listen to, right now!
Add it to your cart, and proceed with your order in the normal e-commerce manner.
But no payment details are asked for, so you can see if you like this way of learning before making a commitment.
If this works for you, getting yourself other material at the right level is easy and fast.
So in no time at all, you’ll be back on track with your Spanish…
And having fun at the same time!
